Can I change dentist if I am already registered elsewhere?

Yes. You are free to change your dentist at any time. If you feel you would benefit from a different approach to your dental care, we would be happy to welcome you to Shettleston Smile.

How do I register with Shettleston Smile?

Registering is simple. Contact our reception team and we will guide you through the process and arrange your first appointment.

Do I need to leave my current dentist first?

No. You can contact us directly and we can advise on the next steps.

Can I transfer my dental records?

Yes. If needed, we can request your records and X-rays from your previous dentist to help ensure continuity of care.

What if I haven’t been to a dentist in years?

That’s absolutely fine. Many patients have had a long break from dental care. We will never judge and will help you move forward comfortably.

What is the difference between NHS and private treatment?

NHS treatment focuses on clinically necessary care to maintain oral health. Private treatment can offer additional choices such as cosmetic options, premium materials and advanced restorative treatments.

Is private treatment better?

Not necessarily “better” — it simply offers more choice. Your dentist will explain both NHS and private options where available.

Can I mix NHS and private treatment?

Yes. In many cases, patients choose a combination of NHS and private care depending on their needs and priorities.

Why would I choose private crowns or fillings?

Private materials such as E-Max, Zirconia and white composite fillings can provide improved appearance, strength and longevity in certain cases.

Do you offer finance or payment plans?

Please speak to our reception team regarding payment options and available treatment plans

I’m nervous about going to the dentist — can you help?

Yes. We regularly care for nervous patients and understand dental anxiety. We take time, explain everything clearly and work at your pace.

What if I am scared of injections?

Many patients feel this way. We use gentle techniques and can apply numbing gel beforehand to make treatment more comfortable.

Will dental treatment hurt?

Our aim is always to keep you as comfortable as possible. Modern dentistry is far gentler than many people expect.

Can I stop treatment if I feel uncomfortable?

Absolutely. You are always in control and we can stop at any point if you need a break.

What if I am embarrassed about my teeth?

Please don’t worry. We see all kinds of dental problems every day and our focus is on helping you, not judging you.

When should I bring my child to the dentist?

We recommend bringing children as soon as their first teeth appear, or by their first birthday where possible.

My child is frightened — what should I do?

This is very common. Our team works gently and patiently to help children feel relaxed and comfortable.

Are children’s check-ups available on the NHS?

Yes. NHS dental care for children is available and focuses on prevention and early care.

My child has crooked teeth — what happens next?

Your dentist can assess their development and advise if orthodontic referral may be appropriate when the time is right.

How can I protect my child’s teeth?

Regular brushing, limiting sugary foods and drinks, and attending regular check-ups are the best ways to protect their smile.

What treatments are available on the NHS?

NHS care includes examinations, X-rays, fillings, extractions, dentures and other clinically necessary treatments.

Are white fillings available on the NHS?

White fillings may be available in some areas of the mouth, but this depends on clinical need and NHS guidelines.

Are crowns available on the NHS?

Yes, where clinically necessary. The materials available may differ from private options.

Can I get cosmetic treatment on the NHS?

Generally, cosmetic treatments such as whitening, veneers and elective aesthetic work are not available under NHS care.

How do I know what treatment is best for me?

At Shettleston Smile, we will always explain your options clearly — whether NHS, private or a combination of both — so you can make the right decision for your oral health and your budget.
